it’s been forever, and basically that’s what you should probably expect from us and this blog.

i just fixed a bunch of broken code and speeded up the site. i honestly don’t even know if i remember how to post on this blog, it’s been that long.

i moved, i am back in school, what else do you want? seriously, though. do people read this? i am not waxing sad or anything, just honestly curious.

-fantasy baseball is starting soon. that is this: awesome.

-albums that were vastly underwhelming: BRMC, massive attack, gorillaz,

- i got an amazingly rad whale tattoo.

like tonight, when the magic did their best to try to give away yet another game but they thankfully didn’t.

anyway you know what the worst thing in the world is? when you’re talking to a pretty redhead with a southern accent trying to convince her to come home with you and it turns out that she has a kid and you can rationalize that away but then all of a sudden it turns out she’s a yankee fan and that’s just a dealbreaker and you leave (after thanking her for tex’s awesomeness on your fantasy team) and you go home and listen to dick dale while drinking old crow.

eff my life people. but seriously, let’s talk about dick dale for a second. how loud do your speakers go? no, that’s not loud enough. they need to be louder for this awesomeness.

omfg, have you dudes and babes heard of hot panda? they’re this band. imagine if matt & kim had a drunken orgy with black lips and decided to score a wes anderson film. well, that soundtrack is this album. i’ve already listened to it 4 times today. i mean, just listen to this amazingness!!!

the goings-on of the recent past:

sonic youth will always be cooler than anything that exists. always.

• jason lytle – a solo album that pretty much sounds like a grandaddy album. jason lytle is awesome and cool and his lyrics are amazing as usual. this album is only okay, however.

• jason lytle, v.2. – he also made an appearance on the AMAZING new project headed by sparklehorse and danger mouse, called dark night of the soul. also featuring vic chestnutt, wayne coyne and a bunch of other awesome dudes and a babe or two. lytle’s lyrics are in the upper echelon of this album’s: “every time i’m with you, you are drunk, and i am too.”

• the lemonheads, with that sexy beast evan dando, put out an album of covers (weird ones; like oldies and shit). it’s pretty good, though i haven’t listened to it that much.

• new dredg album!!!? finally. yes ma’am. i’ve only listened to it once so far, though. more on that in the future

• GRIZZLY BEAR (veckatimest). get it now. that is all. it’s so so so good.

the sounds are finally back with a sweet album and a kind of terrible album cover

• the new green day. is so awful.

• oh, also: re: phoenix. OMG, a decent leak finally emerged (i’d been avoiding the unmastered version for the past few months). WORTH THE WAIT. possible best album of the year here dudes. this thing is awez to the max

• i bet on the rays to win yesterday’s game over the indians, and parlayed it with the over which was at 9.5. rayes scored 10 by the 3rd and were up 10-0. yeah they gave up 7 runs in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs, including 4 straight walks. that’s how my luck works, people. it’s not even surprising anymore.

Nothing mindblowingly original here, just poppy indie rock (imagine Spoon at their most whimsical with a vocalist trying to rip off David Byrne). Still, it’s done really well. A great summertime listen.

Between my last attempt at a post and now, one of my most anticipated albums of the year leaked/was released. The Field’s sophomore effort, Yesterday and Today, builds on Axel Willner’s aesthetic of delicate electronic quasi ambiance. The songs on the album are a bit more sprawling, the six tracks span one hour. The album is a bit of a step down in quality from the unbelievable From Here We Go Sublime, especially when it comes to the vocal samples. One of the tracks has actual lyrics, for which i wasn’t prepared. The chopped samples that made the Field’s first effort so recognizable seem to be a bit harsher and less dreamy this time around, which has a negative impact on the album, whether or not they were intentional.

That being said, Yesterday and Today is still one of my favorites of the year so far. It has a bit looser composition than does its predecessor, and has more of a live feel to the album, which is beneficial. I feel like there might be some krautrock influences creeping into the songs. The conclusion is incredible with the strongest two tracks being the final ones. Willner has dug himself a happy little niche and I am not going to ask him to leave it.

hey dudes and retards, here’s the scoop today

#1. ups should have a different uniform for black people. i just saw 2 of them walking around and it looked weird. really weird.

#2. music has kind of blown this year :( but there are some gems hidden away in the poofields, ladies & gents. one is by a kickass band called japandroids. their debut album is called post-nothing. i kind of forgot about its awesomeness until alan discovered it last week and has been badgering me all week about his subsequent auralgasm. anyway though, it’s totes good, and it sounds kind of like back in the day when you would walk through the creeks at the local golf course looking for sunken, muddy golf balls, except imagine that this time there are several warplanes dogfighting overhead. also it’s apparently not available on cd which is all kinds of awesome.

#3. jose reyes. omfg. i drafted him #4 overall in this year’s fantasy baseball draft. he has like, 7 runs and 9 rbi and like 2 steals so far this year. WTF WT TF WTFFF. the rest of my team is sucking hard too, but reyes is by far the worst . i don’t know why i play fantasy sports i want to cry :(
