the goings-on of the recent past:

• new sonic youth, status: LEAKED!.
holy omfg this is good. like awesomely good. like goo-era good. “What we Know” is deliriously delicious and the finale (“message the history”) is like blonde redhead mating with the kills on vicodin.

• jason lytle – a solo album that pretty much sounds like a grandaddy album. jason lytle is awesome and cool and his lyrics are amazing as usual. this album is only okay, however.

• jason lytle, v.2. – he also made an appearance on the AMAZING new project headed by sparklehorse and danger mouse, called dark night of the soul. also featuring vic chestnutt, wayne coyne and a bunch of other awesome dudes and a babe or two. lytle’s lyrics are in the upper echelon of this album’s: “every time i’m with you, you are drunk, and i am too.”

• the lemonheads, with that sexy beast evan dando, put out an album of covers (weird ones; like oldies and shit). it’s pretty good, though i haven’t listened to it that much.

• new dredg album!!!? finally. yes ma’am. i’ve only listened to it once so far, though. more on that in the future

• GRIZZLY BEAR (veckatimest). get it now. that is all. it’s so so so good.

• the sounds FINALLY YESSSSSSSS new sounds album! the leak right now is just a shitty transcode, but the songs are tight, and they are pretty perfect for driving around on mulholland drive on a sunday afternoon. like alarmingly so. the album cover is kind of terrible though (–>)

• the new green day. is so awful.

• oh, also: re: phoenix. OMG, a decent leak finally emerged (i’d been avoiding the unmastered version for the past few months). WORTH THE WAIT. possible best album of the year here dudes. this thing is awez to the max

• i bet on the rays to win yesterday’s game over the indians, and parlayed it with the over which was at 9.5. rayes scored 10 by the 3rd and were up 10-0. yeah they gave up 7 runs in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs, including 4 straight walks. that’s how my luck works, people. it’s not even surprising anymore.

Been a while since I’ve gotten a tetanus shot and ventured over to the ole p4k), nor has it been given the love that it deserves here on mywife. I figured I would post a bunch of songs from it because it is probably my favorite rock album of the year so far, and I know Dusty is pretty high on it, too. And streaming half the album is a lot easier than writing any sort of cohesive review.

Nothing mindblowingly original here, just poppy indie rock (imagine Spoon at their most whimsical with a vocalist trying to rip off David Byrne). Still, it’s done really well. A great summertime listen.
